I find it exceedingly strange that a group of conservative and libertarian-oriented think tanks — groups that argue for less government — have embraced highways and roads as a solution to traffic congestion and a general boon to living. In the same breath, they usually attack mass-transit spending, particularly on trains. They seem to see a highway as an expression of the free market and of American individualism, and a rail line as an example of government meddling and creeping socialism.

Governing: The Hypocrisy of Libertarians Who Love Highways (via kenyatta)

Very well said.  They favor less govt unless a particular pork barrel is kept full enough for them to gorge on.  Highways are quite profitable.  Conservatives and libertarians oppose govt expenditures on people.  Things that can be built or bought or sold or processed have to make money for someone, and it’s usually them.

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

Great song, but they’re not The Bees anymore. Say hello to The Silver Seas.

tuneage:

The Bees - High Society

Do me a favor and listen to this song 2x. The link above takes you to an NPR story from 2006 referring to the Nashville quartet as a best ‘poorly’ kept secret. This entire record, “High Society”, is sonically soothing. Check it out already!!

NB: Below picture does not represent a member of the band. “Ay yay yay!”
